Lander Acrobatics & Tumbling Qualifies for Nationals in Toss Event

GREENWOOD - The Lander University Acrobatics & Tumbling team has qualified for the 2025 NCATA National Championships in the Toss event, earning an at-large berth after finishing first in Toss Heat 1 in the final regular season standings.

Lander's top performance came in Toss Heat 1, the 450 Salto Toss, where the Bearcats posted an adjusted average score of 9.438, the highest in the heat. Their consistency across six meets helped edge Glenville State University and Gannon University in the at-large rankings.

The Bearcats showcased their depth and talent across multiple event categories this season, finishing in the top three nationally in at least one heat of Acro, Pyramid, Toss, and Tumbling. Despite the strong showings—including a second-place finish in Pyramid Heat 2 (9.600) and a second-place mark in Acro Heat 3 (9.563)—Lander will represent in Toss Heat 1 only, earning the top adjusted average score in that heat to secure their national championship berth.

"We are extremely excited to take this heat to the National Championship. We faced a lot of adversity this year with injuries, and it's been incredible to see how successful we were despite those challenges," stated Head Coach Sarah DiSpaltro. "We have a lot of talent on the team, and I am so proud of how our season went. We look forward to competing at the National level and continuing our growth next year!"

The NCATA uses adjusted averages, which drop each team's highest and lowest scores across the regular season to determine rankings. In the case of a tie, the average of all regular season scores is used as a tiebreaker.

Lander will compete in the National Event Finals, held Sunday at 10 a.m. CT at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, hosted by Augustana University. The championship weekend also features a single-elimination tournament from Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26.

Tickets for the 2025 NCATA National Championships are on sale now (Click here to purchase online). All meets will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
