HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In the penultimate game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, the Lander men's lacrosse team went to Charger Park and emerged with a 16-6 victory in Peach Belt action versus Alabama-Huntsville.
The Bearcats climbed back above .500 with the win and are now 7-6 with a 2-0 PBC record. UAH fell to 2-12, 0-2.
This week's PBC Offensive Player of the Week, Zane Dalpe, scored five goals for the second straight game, and
Carter Wilcox poured in five of his own. Wilcox also tied his career-high with five assists while setting a new career-high with 10 points.
Jeremy Wudrick had three goals and an assist, and
Bradley Brown,
Michael Mattaliano and
Levi Roest each scored a goal.
Max Porterfield earned the win in net after holding the Chargers to one first-half goal and making seven saves in 30 minutes.
Jack Kinney led all defenders with five caused turnovers, a new season-high.
The result was never in doubt as the Blue and Gold held a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and scored the first seven goals of the day. Dalpe completed his hat-trick just 10:33 into the game.
With a 10-1 lead in hand at the start of the third, Wilcox assisted Dalpe 6:33 into the quarter before Dalpe returned the favor three-plus minutes later for a 12-2 score. Wudrick capped his goal-scoring with 4:19 to go in the third and pushed the Bearcat advantage to 13-2.
Lander will host current-No.6 Flagler on Senior Day next Saturday, April 19, for the PBC Regular Season Championship. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
