Lander Stuns No. 3 Seed Augusta in Overtime, Advances to Peach Belt Semifinals

Junior guard Quadaija Langley hits 1,000 career points in milestone performance.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – In a thrilling Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal, No. 6 seed Lander pulled off a stunning 63-61 overtime victory over No. 3 seed Augusta on Tuesday evening at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Junior guard Quadaija Langley led the way for the Bearcats, scoring 22 points while eclipsing the 1,000-point milestone for her career. She now sits at 1,014 career points as a junior.

How it Happened

Both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, with the period ending in an 8-8 deadlock. Lander shot 40 percent (4-of-10) from the field but missed both its three-point attempts and its lone free throw. Augusta managed just 25 percent (3-of-12) shooting and went scoreless from beyond the arc.

Augusta found its stride in the second quarter, outscoring Lander 16-8 in the frame. The Jaguars shot an efficient 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field, while the Bearcats struggled at 27.3 percent (3-of-11). A late fast-break jumper from Jazz Frierson kept the Bearcats within striking distance, but they entered halftime trailing 24-16.

Lander responded with its best offensive stretch, outscoring Augusta 15-13. Langley connected on key baskets, helping the Bearcats improve to 41.7 percent shooting (5-of-12). Free throws became a factor as Lander hit 5-of-7 from the line, cutting the Jaguars lead to 37-31 heading into the final period.

The Bearcats erupted in the fourth quarter, shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15) and hitting two of three attempts from deep. Langley led all scorers with seven points. The Jaguars struggled at 23.5 percent (4-of-17) shooting, allowing Lander to force overtime with a strong close.

Lander carried its momentum into the extra frame, shooting 57.1 percent (4-of-7), with Aliyah Bello hitting a crucial three-pointer. Langley sealed the game at the free-throw line, sinking two with 19 seconds to go. Augusta fought back, but its 42.9 percent (3-of-7) free-throw shooting in overtime proved costly, as the Bearcats secured the 63-61 victory.
