Lander Falls to Georgia Southwestern in Peach Belt Semifinals, 59-52

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Lander's bid for a Peach Belt Conference Championship ended in the semifinals on Friday, as they fell to Georgia Southwestern 59-52 at the UNG Convocation Center.

The Bearcats (14-13, 8-10 PBC) struggled offensively throughout the game, shooting just 30.6 percent from the field. Despite a strong performance from Quadaija Langley, who finished with 14 points and four rebounds, Lander could not overcome a slow start and poor shooting in the second half.

The Bearcats battled throughout, tying the game six times and exchanging the lead three times, but Georgia Southwestern (14-14, 8-10 PBC) pulled away late to advance to the championship.

Lander trailed by five points, 16-11, after the first quarter, and despite a resilient effort in the second, during which they kept pace with Georgia Southwestern, the Bearcats couldn't regain the lead. Lander shot just 25 percent in the second quarter, and the Hurricanes led 27-26 at halftime.

The Bearcats came out strong in the third quarter, keeping the Hurricanes lead to just one point, but Georgia Southwestern responded with a 17-point fourth quarter, pulling away for the victory.

Trinity Thomas also had a solid outing for Lander, scoring 13 points, but the Bearcats' offensive struggles, including a 20 percent shooting performance in the final period, ultimately sealed their fate.
