NINETY SIX, S.C. – The Lander men's golf team earned a fifth-place finish in the Bearcat Classic at Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor on Monday and Tuesday.
The Bearcats finished +9 for the week, while Wingate took the team title. Grand Valley State was four shots back of the Bulldogs with USC Aiken and Lenoir-Rhyne in third and fourth; there were 19 teams and 108 competitors in all.
Aaron Lin was runner-up and the highest finishing Bearcat at -9 as he earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Lin shot even-par 72 in the first round but followed that up with rounds of 69 and 66 in the second and third.
Lin's second round featured six birdies, and he added five more in the final round in addition to an eagle on the par-4 10th.
Edward Rahm's six-under 66 to close the tournament sent him 16 spots up the leaderboard into sole possession of fifth place – and a spot on the All-Tournament team. That final round featured seven birdies for Rahm (-5) who carded 12 this week.
Last week's winner
Gaston Edberg (-2) also rose 16 spots up the leaderboard during the final round and into a tie for 10th as he had a 68 to finish the tournament on the heels of six birdies.
Jake Wakeford (T21st) put together rounds of 70-72-75 while tying for the tournament lead with a pair of eagles this week.
Charles Beiers bookended his tournament with 73s and had a hole-in-one on the par-3 7th during the final round today.
Easton Keller was next on the leaderboard for the Bearcats and had nine birdies this week.
Victor Larsson went 77-74-74, as did
Samuel Guigui-Baruchel.
Evan Prickett carded his lowest round of the week in the final round, a 72, and
Noah Curdt had rounds of 75-76-77.
Elias Larsson's low-round was the second that featured four birdies.
Lander has next week off from competition and returns to the course for the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College on March 17 and 18. The tournament will be contested at the Golf Club at Cuscowilla in Eatonton, Georgia.
