Christian Davis named NWCA National Rookie of the Year

MANHEIM, Pa. — Christian Davis has been named the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Rookie of the Year, the organization announced Monday afternoon. Davis becomes the second Bearcat to earn the honor, joining two-time national champion David Hunsberger (2023), who was named the Super Region II Wrestler of the Year alongside Davis's recognition as the Super Region II Rookie of the Year.

Davis completed his debut season with a 34-7 record, setting the program record for most wins by a freshman. He earned a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships — the highest finish by a freshman in program history and the highest placement of any freshman at this year's tournament.

Of his 34 victories, 23 came with bonus points, giving him a 68% bonus-point conversion rate. Davis also became the first Lander freshman to win the Midwest Classic and was named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year.
