No. 25 Lander Secures Victory with Strong Singles Comeback

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 25-ranked Lander University men's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Georgia College on Friday afternoon. The team clinched the victory behind a resilient singles comeback.

Doubles Recap

The match began with an intense doubles battle, with Georgia College claiming the opening point. Lander's No. 2 duo of Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash delivered a 6-3 win to even the doubles contest, but Georgia College took victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to secure the early advantage. 

Singles Recap

In singles play, Lander quickly responded. Jayaprakash dominated at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to get the Bearcats on the board. 

After Georgia College extended its lead with a win at No. 2, Lander surged ahead behind straight-set victories from Ismail ElShafei at No. 5 and Pugh at No. 1. 

With the match tied at 3-3, all eyes turned to No. 3 singles, where Julian Peter mounted a thrilling comeback. After dropping the first set and falling behind 2-0 in the third, he reeled off six consecutive games to claim a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory, securing the match for Lander.

With the win, Lander improves to 11-2 on the season and remains unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play at 2-0. The Bearcats will look to build on their momentum as they continue their conference slate.

After a thrilling road victory over Georgia College, No. 25 Lander (11-2, 2-0 PBC) will look to keep its momentum rolling as it returns home to Greenwood for a Peach Belt Conference showdown against No. 3 Flagler (11-2, 1-0 PBC) on Saturday. The match is set for a 4:30 p.m. start at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
