EATONTON, Ga. – In a field filled with high-level competition, the No. 21 Lander men's golf team placed seventh out of 15 teams at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College.
Victor Larsson (-2) was two shots back of the tournament winner from West Florida in a tie for second place.
The tournament, which was contested at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee, was won by second-ranked North Georgia (+1) by two strokes over third-ranked West Florida. Lee (No. 8), USC Aiken (No. 9) and Columbus State (No. 13) completed the top-five.
The Bearcats finished three shots behind No. 20 Nova Southeastern but beat 10th-ranked Georgia Southwestern and 19th-ranked Rollins by six and 23 shots, respectively.
There were nine top-25 teams in all.
Larsson had a three-round total of 208 and improved over each round, going from an opening-round 72 to a middle-round 69, while closing with a 67. His 13 birdies this week tied for second most in the field.
Close behind in a sixth-place tie was
Edward Rahm at even-par. Rahm righted the ship after a first-round 74 by following it up with a three-under 67 before ending with a 69. He had 11 birdies over the two-day tournament.
Last week's Peach Belt Golfer of the Week,
Aaron Lin, carded rounds of 75-73-76.
Jake Wakeford and
Gaston Edberg tied with three-round totals of 226 to complete the Lander leaderboard.
The Bearcats are right back at it next week at Lincoln Memorial's Tennessee River Rumble on March 24 and 25. The tournament will be played at WindRiver Golf Club in Lenoir City.
