GREENWOOD - The Lander women's tennis team (7-4) secured a 5-2 victory over Converse University (5-6) on Saturday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center. The Bearcats set the tone early with a clean sweep in doubles play and carried their momentum into singles action to claim the win.

Doubles Recap

Lander quickly gained the upper hand in the doubles competition. The No. 2 pairing of Bailee Martin and Evelyn Altmaier delivered a swift 6-2 victory, followed closely by Hannah Panchal and Ashtyn Cason, who defeated their No. 3 opponents 6-3.

The Bearcats completed the sweep in a hard-fought No. 1 doubles match, where Mille Elsborg and Maria Jose Zarza edged out their Converse opponents 7-6 (7-4) in the tiebreaker to secure the doubles point.

Singles Recap

In singles action, the Bearcats maintained control. Maria Jose Zarza dominated at No. 3 singles, dropping just one game en route to a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Ashtyn Cason followed with an equally strong performance at No. 6, dispatching her opponent 6-3, 6-0. Despite a setback at No. 1 singles, where Converse's Khushi Kharb secured a 6-2, 6-2 win, Lander bounced back as Evelyn Altmaier powered through at No. 2 singles for a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win.
