Lander Rolls Past Newberry in Convincing Win

GREENWOOD - The Lander University acrobatics & tumbling team continued its strong season with a commanding 252.405-102.525 victory over Newberry College on Wednesday night at Finis Horne Arena. The Bearcats excelled across all events, pushing their record to 4-1.

Lander set the tone early, taking a 93.20-59.85 lead into halftime behind a near-flawless compulsory performance. The Bearcats posted a 37.40 out of a possible 40 points, highlighted by a 9.85 in the toss heat and a 9.80 in the pyramid heat.

The Bearcats continued their momentum in the acro event, scoring 27.55 out of 29.95, including an event-best 9.90 in the seven-element heat. Lander remained steady in the pyramid event, earning 28.25 points behind a 9.75 in the synchronized heat and a 9.55 in the open heat.

Lander impressed in the toss event, securing 28.55 out of a possible 28.55. The Bearcats' highest score came in the open toss heat (9.70), followed closely by a 9.65 in the 450 Salto heat.

The Bearcats also delivered a strong tumbling performance, finishing with 51.425 out of 56.05. In the duo pass, Ryann Swope and Jaedien Irizarry earned a 9.250, while the trio of Morgan Axiotis, Phoenix Woodard, and Cayden Groome contributed a 7.750. The quad pass team of Makayla Krusen, Ashlyn Shively, Kaleigh Cato, and Danielle Kuusisto secured a 7.500.

Morgan Axiotis shined in the aerial pass with a 9.150, and Swope posted a 9.425 in the six-element pass. Irizarry closed out the individual efforts with an 8.350 in the open pass.

Lander capped off the night with a solid team event, scoring 79.23 out of a possible 97.49, securing the impressive win.

The Bearcats will look to build on their momentum in their next matchup at Coker University on Friday, March 21. The events will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Hartsville, S.C.
