Bearcats Shut Out Mount Olive 7-0 on the Road

Box Score Mount Olive, N.C. - The Lander University women's tennis team (2-1, 0-0 PBC) delivered a dominant performance, sweeping Mount Olive (0-2) with victories in every match.

"I'm very proud of the team's performance this weekend," stated Head Coach Samantha Allison. "They came into this season very determined and have been working hard, and I'm excited that it is paying off."

Doubles Recap

At No. 1 doubles, Mille Elsborg and Maria Jose Zarza showcased their signature chemistry, securing a solid 6-4 victory over the Trojans.

Evelyn Altmaier and Bailee Martin battled through a nail-biting contest at No. 2 doubles, edging out Victoria Calle and Claudia Cerdan in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5).

Ella Sowman and Ashtyn Cason dominated at No. 3 doubles, cruising to a commanding 6-0 win for the Bearcats.

With stellar doubles play, Lander clinched the match's first point, setting the tone for an electrifying singles showdown.

Senior Mille Elsborg secured her second consecutive victory at No. 1 singles, delivering a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win for the Bearcats.

At No. 2 singles, Evelyn Altmaier also claimed her second straight win with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 performance.

Maria Jose Zarza (3-0) remained a dominant force at No. 3 singles, cruising to an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Ella Sowman kept Lander's momentum strong at No. 4 singles, defeating Nina Bernier 6-2, 6-1.

Hannah Panchal rebounded from two early-season losses with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

Rounding out the scoring for the Bearcats, Bailee Martin secured a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Julie Jagiella at No. 6 singles.

The Bearcats set the tone early and carried their momentum through the final singles match, securing a dominant 7-0 road victory over Mount Olive.

The Lander women's tennis team will have its home opener on Thursday, Feb. 13, in a match against Emmanuel University (Ga.). Doubles action will start at 2:00 p.m. at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
