Dominant Performance Propels Lander to 7-0 Sweep Over Mount Olive

Florence, S.C. - Lander men's tennis put on a clinic Friday afternoon, securing a 7-0 victory over Mount Olive (0-2). The Bearcats (2-1, 0-0 PBC) delivered a near-flawless performance to claim its second win of the season.

Doubles Recap

Lander came out strong in doubles play, taking two of three matchups to secure the early advantage. The duo of Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash set the tone at No. 1 doubles with a solid 6-4 win. Ludvig Danielsson and Benjamin Bates followed suit with another 6-4 victory at No. 2, clinching the doubles point for the Bearcats.

While Mount Olive managed to take the No. 3 doubles match, Lander's momentum was already rolling into the singles competition.

Singles Recap

At the top of the lineup, Harry Pugh delivered a commanding performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Kristoffer Dalbak 6-3, 6-2.

Merlin Bellet battled through a tough three-set contest at No. 2 singles. After a strong start, winning the first set 6-2, Bellet stumbled in the second, dropping it 1-6. However, he regained his composure in the decisive third-set tiebreak, dominating 10-3 to claim the win over Bram Poel.

At No. 3 singles, Ismail ElShafei pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Hampus Hagglund. Mouad Naoui followed with another impressive showing at No. 4 singles, dispatching Joao Matias Sonaglia 6-4, 6-3. 

Max Barriere put on a dominant display at No. 5 singles, securing a 6-4, 6-0 win over Viggo Lindstrup. Barriere found his rhythm after a competitive first set and completely shut out Lindstrup in the second.

Wrapping up the singles sweep, Brendan Jayaprakash overpowered Luke Oosthuizen at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win.

Lander returns to action next week as they continue their early-season campaign. The Bearcats will face Converse University on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Spartanburg, S.C. Doubles will begin at 2 p.m.
