Bearcats Edged Out by Sand Sharks in Conference Clash

Bluffton, S.C. - The Lander Bearcats fought hard in a back-and-forth Peach Belt Conference showdown but came up just short in a 63-59 loss to USC Beaufort at home on Wednesday night. Despite strong performances from Shcira Fowles (18 points, seven rebounds) and Quadaija Langley (14 points, five rebounds), Lander couldn't overcome a tough third quarter by the Sand Sharks.

How it Happened

Both teams struggled to find an early offensive rhythm. The Bearcats shot 33.3 percent (5-for-15) from the field, while USC Beaufort managed just 28.6 percent (4-for-14). Lander's defense held strong, forcing seven Sand Shark turnovers to take a one-point lead into the second quarter.

Lander's offense found its groove in the second, shooting a game-best 60 percent (9-for-15) from the field. Langley and Fowles combined for 13 points, with Langley knocking down Lander's only three-pointer of the game.

Despite USC Beaufort keeping pace, the Bearcats outscored the Sand Sharks 21-17 to head into halftime with a 33-28 lead.

After halftime, the game took a dramatic turn, with USC Beaufort seizing control by outscoring Lander 21-10 in the third quarter. The Sand Sharks shot an efficient 47.1 percent from the field, taking advantage of the Bearcats' cold streak from beyond the arc (0-for-3 from three). As the quarter ended, USCB carried a 49-43 lead into the final frame.

Despite a late push, Lander couldn't complete the comeback, as the Sand Sharks forced seven Bearcat turnovers and sealed the game with a clutch layup in the final two minutes. In the end, USCB secured the late comeback in the second half, grabbing a 63-59 victory over the Bearcats at home.
