#12 Wrestling Locks Up West Division Title with 49-0 Domination of Montevallo

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The 12th-ranked Lander Wrestling team locked up their second consecutive Conference Carolinas West Division Title on Tuesday evening as they shut out the Montevallo Falcons 49-0 in a neutral site contest on the campus of Emmanuel University. This was Lander's third consecutive shutout and fifth so far this season. The Bearcats won every match by bonus point margins, earning four major decisions, three tech falls, and two pins.

Lander improved to 13-4 overall and remains perfect in Conference Carolinas play, at 9-0, and in the West Division, at 6-0. Montevallo is 6-5 overall, 5-4 in league play, and 4-2 in division play.

With the West Division title, the Bearcats also earned the right to host the 2025 Conference Carolinas Wrestling Championship, which will be held on Sunday, February 16th. Further details will be announced later.

The Falcons forfeited at 125 to give Lander an early 6-0 lead, which Christian Davis (Arizona City, Ariz.) doubled with a pin in 3:59 at 133.

Isham Peace (Okatie, S.C.) and Reid Noble (Plant City, Fla.) each earned second-period tech falls, adding ten more points to the Lander total, bringing the score to 22-0 after four matches.

Noah Ruolo used two third-period takedowns to secure an 11-3 major decision at 157 before David Hunsberger (Duncan, S.C.) fought off a quick attack off the whistle by Tristian Williams to secure a 36-second pin to make the score 32-0.

Nathan Buckovich, Anthony Giampeitro (Columbus, N.J.), and Marvelous Rutledge (Dayton, Ohio) each earned major decisions to make it 44-0 and Champ Higdon (Woodstock, Ga.) closed the match with an 18-2 tech fall in 4:14.

Lander closes regular season action next Tuesday (Feb. 11) as they travel to Rome, Ga. for the program's first-ever matchup with the Shorter Hawks. That dual is slated for a 7:00 PM start time.
