Bearcats Battle but Fall Short Against Belmont Abbey

Belmont, N.C. – The Lander acrobatics & tumbling team dropped a close road meet to Belmont Abbey, 229.940-227.570, on Friday night at the Wheeler Center.

With the loss, Lander falls to 1-1 on the season, while Belmont Abbey improves to 4-1.

The Bearcats opened the meet with a solid performance in the Compulsory event, scoring 32.65 points out of a possible 40. Their best effort came in the Pyramid Heat, where they earned a 9.60.

However, Belmont Abbey edged them out with a 33.75 overall, taking a narrow lead early.

In the Acro event, Lander posted a 24.30, highlighted by a strong 9.35 in the 7 Element Heat. The Crusaders, however, claimed the event with a 24.95.

The Bearcats responded in the Pyramid event, scoring 27.25 behind a strong Synchronized Heat (9.35) and Open Heat (9.20). Despite Lander's consistency, Belmont Abbey edged them again with a 27.50.

Lander took control in the Toss event, outscoring Belmont Abbey 24.90-22.85, fueled by a 9.05 in the 450 Salto Heat. The Bearcats then extended their advantage in Tumbling, posting a 48.40 compared to the Crusaders' 45.65. Lander shined in the Open Pass (9.30) and Aerial Pass (9.20), securing a slim lead heading into the final event.

Holding a 143.370-143.740 advantage going into the Team Event, Lander looked poised for a strong finish. However, an injury midway through the event forced an adjustment, leading to deductions and a 70.07 total. Belmont Abbey capitalized, scoring a 75.24 to clinch the 229.940-227.570 victory.

Despite the setback, the Bearcats showed resilience throughout the meet and will look to bounce back in their next competition.
