NEWBERRY, S.C. – Playing down the road at Setzler Field in a midweek non-conference game, the Lander men's lacrosse team was defeated 13-10 by No. 19 Newberry on Wednesday night.
Scoring three goals and leading the way for the Lander offense was
Chase Hanson.
Zane Dalpe and
Levi Roest added two goals apiece, and
Trevor Batastini,
Daniel Quinn and

Lander (3-3) scored four unanswered goals after falling behind early to the Wolves (2-2) and took a 4-1 lead with six minutes left in the quarter. Hanson had the first and fourth goals with Quinn and Roest netting the two in-between.
The Bearcats held a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes.
Trailing by a 5-4 score in the second quarter, Dalpe evened it up at five with his first of the night with 10:37 left in the half. Dalpe tied it again at six but Newberry led 8-7 by halftime – Roest added his second of the game with 1:14 remaining before half.
Hanson finished his hat-trick four minutes into the second half and tied the game at eight in the process.
Facing a 10-8 deficit to begin the final quarter, Batastini pulled the Bearcats within a score just 31 seconds in. Lander, though, had a lengthy scoring drought and was unable to get closer.
