Lander Rolls Past Emmanuel with Commanding 4-0 Victory

GREENWOOD - The Lander University women's tennis team put on a dominant display at home Tuesday morning, securing a 4-0 victory over Emmanuel University in a decisive performance. With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 5-2 on the year and continue their strong early-season start.

The Bearcats set the tone early with strong doubles play and never looked back, clinching the match with a commanding win from Mille Elsborg at No. 1 singles.

Doubles Recap

Doubles action saw Lander take control right from the start. The duo of Hannah Panchal and Ashtyn Cason made quick work of their opponents at No. 3, rolling to a 6-2 victory. Shortly after, the top tandem of Elsborg and Maria Jose Zarza followed suit with a 6-4 win at No. 1, securing the crucial doubles point. 

The No. 2 match featuring Evelyn Altmaier and Bailee Martin remained unfinished with the Bearcats leading 5-4.

Singles Recap

In singles, Lander wasted no time building on its lead. At No. 6, Ashtyn Cason delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory to push the Bearcats ahead 2-0. 

Shortly after, Maria Jose Zarza picked up the win at No. 3 as her opponent retired, giving Lander a 3-0 advantage. 

At No. 1 singles, Mille Elsborg put on a stellar performance, shutting out Sabina Roua in the first set before sealing the deal with a 6-4 second set, securing Lander's fifth win of the season.

UP NEXT 
The Bearcats will head to Erskine College for a Thursday afternoon matchup on Feb. 27. Doubles will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sloan-Cox Tennis Courts.
