Lander Splits Doubleheader, Shuts Out Limestone in Game 2 Run-Rule Victory

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Lander Bearcats (9-5, 0-0 PBC) split their doubleheader against Limestone on Sunday, dropping a close 3-2 decision in the opener before bouncing back with an 8-0 shutout run-rule victory in game two.

Game One - Limestone 3, Lander 2

The Bearcats took an early lead in the first inning when Emily Allen singled to right field, driving in Reagan Hill. The Bearcats maintained their advantage through four innings behind a strong pitching performance from Kamryn Akins, who limited the Saints to just three hits on the day.

In the fifth, Lander added to its lead when Bella Angeli's sacrifice fly brought home Hill, making it 2-0. However, Limestone responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on a pair of clutch hits, including a two-RBI single from the Saints.

Despite collecting eight hits, Lander could not mount a comeback in the final two innings, as Limestone held on for the win.

Key Performers Game Two - Lander 8, Limestone 0

Lander wasted little time setting the tone in game two, scoring in the first inning and continuing to add runs throughout. Linda Moore put the Bearcats on the board early with a solo home run, and the offense continued to click with a steady stream of hits.

Hill, Allen, Camuglia, and Bumgarner each contributed RBIs, while Moore added a two-run double in the fourth to extend Lander's lead to 6-0. The Bearcats finished with 16 hits, applying consistent pressure on Limestone's pitching staff.

Halona Sampson set the tone early in the circle for Lander, retiring all three batters she faced, inducing two groundouts and a flyout. Mattye Geddings (save) took over in relief and dominated, allowing only one hit over four scoreless innings while striking out two to secure the run-rule victory.
