Lander Falls to Columbus State in Tough Road Loss

Columbus, Ga. - Lander struggled to keep up with Columbus State's high-powered offense, falling 97-57 in a Peach Belt Conference matchup. The Bearcats now sit at 11-12 overall (6-10 PBC), while Columbus State improved to 18-7 (12-4 PBC).

How it Happened

The Bearcats had a solid start offensively, shooting 38.5 percent from the field, but Columbus State's hot three-point shooting made the difference. The Cougars hit 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from deep, with Letiya Reeves leading the charge.

Lander's offense hit a rough patch, shooting just 3-for-11 in the second quarter. The Bearcats couldn't capitalize on second-chance opportunities despite battling on the boards. Columbus State cooled from three but extended the lead thanks to their defensive pressure, forcing multiple turnovers.

Lander's best offensive quarter came after halftime, shooting 41.7 percent (5-for-12) from the field and knocking down two three-pointers. Trinity Thomas and Shcira Fowles found some rhythm, but Columbus State's transition game continued to be a problem, leading to easy baskets.

The Cougars dominated the final quarter, shooting an impressive 80 percent (8-for-10) from the field and going 14-of-15 from the free-throw line. Lander went cold, hitting just 23.8 percent (5-for-21) and missing all six of their three-point attempts. Columbus State closed the game on a strong run to seal the 40-point victory.
