Langley’s Career-High 38 Points Lifts Lander Past Flagler on Senior Night

GREENWOOD - The Lander Bearcats put on a show for their home crowd on Senior Night, securing an 89-84 victory over the Flagler Saints (12-14, 8-9 PBC) in a high-energy Peach Belt Conference battle. Led by a phenomenal 38-point performance from Quadaija Langley, Lander improved to 12-12 (7-10 PBC) and kept their postseason hopes alive.

Langley's career-high 38 points marked the most by a single player in a game this season for Lander, as she dominated the Saints' defense with an efficient 12-of-17 from the field, 4-of-5 from three, and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.

She wasn't the only standout, as Shcira Fowles delivered another impressive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends. Fowles also added two steals, two blocks, and five assists to her stat sheet.

Flagler put up a strong fight behind Destiny McClendon's 27 points, but their slow start proved costly.

How it Happened

The Bearcats wasted no time asserting dominance, shooting 57.9 percent from the field (11-of-19) in the opening quarter. Langley set the tone early, driving to the hoop and knocking down three layups in her 8-point quarter. The Saints struggled mightily, hitting just 16.7 percent of their shots (2-of-12) and failing to convert from beyond the arc (0-of-5).

The Saints answered back with a strong second quarter, shooting 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the floor. Lander cooled off significantly, hitting only 25 percent of their shots (3-of-12), but managed to stay in control thanks to 8-of-11 free throws. Despite the dip in efficiency, the Bearcats entered halftime with a 38-32 lead.

Langley caught fire in the third, pouring in 18 of her game-high 38 points. She connected on 4-of-4 from deep and 7-of7 from the field, lifting Lander to a 70.6 percent shooting clip in the quarter. The Saints countered with four three-pointers of their own, but they couldn't contain the Bearcats' ability to score in the paint as Lander extended its lead heading into the final frame, 67-57.

Despite a late push from Flagler, the Bearcats maintained control down the stretch. Langley sealed the deal with clutch free throws, finishing 10-of-12 from the line. Fowles secured her double-double, while Trinity Thomas added timely buckets to finish with 15 points.

With just one minute left, Thomas came up with a crucial steal and raced down the court for a fast-break layup, pushing Lander's lead to 83-80 and shifting the momentum back in the Bearcats' favor. Despite Flagler's last-minute surge, the Bearcats grabbed the 89-84 win on Senior Night.

Final Thoughts

"After a tough loss by 40, the team's resilience tonight was incredible. To come back, compete, and snap a five-game streak against a really good team says everything about their heart and fight," stated Head Coach Colie Shelwick. "Huge shoutout to Q for dropping 38 and setting the single-season scoring high this year—an unbelievable performance. I'm so proud of the grit, resilience, and how this group responded. And to our seniors- Abby Carter, Aliyah Bello, Jamia Clark, and Quadijah Moore- thank you for everything. Tonight was special."
