Lander Falls as Augusta Rallies Late for Comeback Win

GREENWOOD - Despite leading for most of the game, Lander couldn't hold off a late surge from Augusta, falling 58-53 at home. The Bearcats (11-11, 6-9 PBC) controlled the pace through three quarters, but Augusta's dominant fourth-quarter performance proved to be the difference as the Jaguars outscored Lander 23-12 in the final period.

How it Happened

The Bearcats opened the game with energy, jumping out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. Quadaija Langley paced the offense, while Shcira Fowles made her presence felt on the boards. The Bearcats' defense was suffocating early, holding Augusta to just 12.5 percent shooting in the opening frame.

The second quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams managing just nine points. Lander maintained control thanks to their rebounding advantage, led by Fowles, and took a 22-17 lead into halftime.

Lander's offense found its rhythm in the third quarter, shooting an impressive 66.7 percent from the field. Langley and Jazz Frierson helped extend the lead, but Augusta also started to heat up. Quinasia Abercrombie led the Jaguars' charge, keeping them within striking distance as Lander entered the fourth quarter up 41-35.

Augusta erupted in the final period, shooting 83.3% from the floor and locking down defensively. Abercrombie took over, finishing with a game-high 19 points and six steals. Lander struggled to find offensive consistency, making just three of 13 quarter-shots.

Ultimately, Augusta capitalized on turnovers and key defensive stops to erase the deficit and pull away in the closing minutes to win the game 58-53.
