Fowles and Langley Shine, but Lander Falls Short at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Monday night, the Lander University women's basketball team (11-10, 6-8 PBC) dropped its road game to the Augusta Jaguars (17-7, 9-5 PBC). Despite the loss, Shcira Fowles and Quadaija Langley delivered standout performances, keeping the Bearcats in the game.

Fowles dominated the paint with a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double, adding two steals and three blocks, while Langley provided a spark on the perimeter, dropping 19 points. The duo gave Lander a fighting chance, but Augusta's efficient three-point shooting and clutch free-throw performance proved too much to overcome.

How it Happened

Lander started strong, shooting 45.5 percent (5-for-11) from the field and knocking down an early three-pointer. However, Augusta's defense made scoring difficult, limiting the Bearcats to 11 first-quarter points. Despite Langley and Fowles keeping the offense afloat, Augusta held a 14-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, Lander's shooting cooled to just 38.5 percent from the floor, struggling from beyond the arc (1-for-6). Augusta maintained control in the quarter, shooting an efficient 46.7 percent (7-for-15) and stretching the lead to 32-24 at halftime.

Lander showed signs of life after the break, aggressively attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line, converting 75 percent (6-for-8). Fowles dominated the paint, securing rebounds and finishing inside. However, Augusta knocked down two clutch three-pointers that kept them in control, maintaining a 52-40 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Bearcats had their best offensive stretch in the fourth, shooting 53.8 percent (7-for-13) and tightening up defensively. However, struggles from deep and a few missed free throws (4-for-7) stalled the comeback effort. A 7-0 run gave Lander momentum, but Augusta held firm, closing out the 70-58 victory.
