Bearcats Bounce Back with Statement Win Over Georgia College, 68-48

GREENWOOD - The Lander Bearcats (11-9, 6-7 PBC) finally got back in the win column in emphatic fashion, snapping a four-game losing streak with a dominant 68-48 Homecoming victory over Georgia College (14-10, 7-7 PBC) on Saturday afternoon.

After falling to the Bobcats 69-61 earlier this season, Lander responded with one of their best performances of the year, fueled by stifling defense and efficient shooting.

"After four tough losses, we stayed resilient, found a way to win—win big—and did it together," Head Coach Colie Shelwick stated. "Every player contributed, every roster spot mattered, which makes this team special. I am so proud of them."

How it Happened

Determined to end the streak, Lander came out firing, racing to an 18-5 lead in the opening quarter. The Bearcats' defense set the tone early, forcing tough shots and limiting Georgia College to just 16.7 percent shooting. Courtney Nesbitt got the offense rolling with five points and two steals, while the Bearcats aggressive rebounding gave them extra opportunities.

The Bearcats turned up the heat in the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 24-8 to take a commanding 42-13 lead at halftime. Lander shot an impressive 53.3 percent from the field and knocked down 4-of-6 from beyond the arc (66.7 percent), with Quadaija Langley draining two triples in the first half. Trinity Thomas contributed on both ends, finishing the half with ten points and two steals.

Georgia College finally found some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring Lander 19-9 behind Hannah Cail's game-high 21 points. However, the Bearcats' size advantage kept the Bobcats from getting easy second-chance points, as Shcira Fowles dominated the boards with 15 rebounds.

Lander ensured there was no late-game drama, securing the final quarter 17-16 to close out their first win in nearly three weeks. Jazz Frierson provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, and the Bearcats' defensive pressure helped force 21 total turnovers. Despite some late three-pointers from Georgia College, Lander never let them back within striking distance.

Key Performers Lander (11-9, 6-7 PBC) snaps their four-game skid in style, reminding the conference that they're still a force to be reckoned with. With this momentum, the Bearcats will look to stack wins as they continue their Peach Belt Conference push.
