No. 10 North Georgia Proves Too Much for Lander

GREENWOOD - The Lander Bearcats put up a fight but couldn't overcome the firepower of No. 10 North Georgia, falling 79-53 at Finis Horne Arena. Despite a tough start, Lander (10-9, 5-7 PBC) showed some resilience, especially in the second half, as they battled against one of the nation's top teams.

How it Happened

North Georgia came out firing, setting the tone early with a dominant 25-8 opening quarter. Lander struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting just 27.3 percent from the field, while the Nighthawks capitalized on high-percentage shots inside.

The Bearcats found some footing defensively but couldn't get much going offensively, managing only 11 points in the second period. North Georgia cooled off a bit but still extended its lead, taking a 43-19 advantage into halftime.

Lander's offense finally began to click, with Courtney Nesbitt leading the charge. She finished the night with an impressive 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting. However, North Georgia's outside shooting kept them firmly in control, as they knocked down five three-pointers in the quarter to push their lead to 69-36.

The Bearcats refused to go down without a fight, outscoring the Nighthawks 17-10 in the final frame. Lander shot 58.3 percent in the quarter, their best offensive stretch of the game. Quadaija Langley added 13 points, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
