Georgia Southwestern Capitalizes on Second Half Struggles to Secure 75-60 Win

GREENWOOD - Despite a strong effort from Quadaija Langley and Trinity Thomas, the Lander Bearcats (10-6, 5-4 Peach Belt) couldn't overcome shooting struggles in a 75-60 loss to Georgia Southwestern (10-7, 6-3 Peach Belt) at Finis Horne Arena. The Bearcats kept it close early, but a tough third quarter proved costly as the Hurricanes pulled away.

How it Happened

Lander started well, matching GSW's energy in the opening minutes. The Bearcats shot 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from the field. However, the Hurricanes capitalized on their hot shooting, hitting 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the floor and 66.7 percent (2-for-3) from deep to take a four-point lead.

Lander responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Hurricanes 17-16. Thomas provided a spark with eight points, while the Bearcats attacked the rim and earned free throws, hitting 7-of-11 from the line. GSW cooled down from the field (36.4 percent shooting), allowing LU to stay within striking distance heading into halftime.

The game shifted in the third quarter as Lander struggled offensively. The Bearcats shot just 33.3 percent (6-for-18) from the field and went 0-for-3 from three-point range, while Georgia Southwestern caught fire, shooting 64.3 percent (9-for-14) overall going 2-for2 from beyond the arc. The Hurricanes' Destiny Garrett controlled the pace, finishing the game with a double-double (18 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds).

Despite their efforts, Lander couldn't close the gap in the final quarter. The Bearcats shot just 30.8 percent (4-for-13) and struggled from deep, finishing the game at 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from three. Meanwhile, GSW maintained their lead, matching Lander's 15 points in the period to seal the win.
