Fast Start Propels Bearcats to a 70-51 Victory Over Lions

ETTRICK, Va. - The Lander University women's basketball team closed out the final day of the VSU Cross-Divisional Classic in dominant fashion, racing to a commanding early lead and never looking back in a 70-51 win over Lincoln University (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Bearcats improved to 2-4 on the season and returned to Greenwood with a solid 1-1 showing on the weekend.

The tone was set immediately. Lander exploded for a 28-7 first-quarter advantage, powered by blistering shooting and intense defensive pressure that forced Lincoln (Pa.) into early turnovers. The Bearcats connected on 11-of-22 shots in the frame, including an impressive 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Quadaija Langley led the way with a standout 19-point performance, filling the stat sheet with six rebounds, four steals, and efficient 8-of-16 shooting. Trinity Thomas added 15 points with three triples, while Alindria Dudley became the third Bearcat to reach double figures, scoring 11 points to go along with four steals in another strong backcourt performance. Lauryn Hunt also controlled the paint, securing 10 rebounds with six points.

Lander's depth and defensive intensity continued to shine as the game progressed. The Bearcats racked up 41 points off turnovers, 23 second-chance points, and 19 bench points, maintaining a steady lead throughout the afternoon.

Though Lincoln's Kaziah Akinniyi posted a game-high 30 points, Lander's balanced attack and rebounding edge (34-27) kept control firmly in Bearcat hands.

The win capped a strong finish to the classic and gives the Blue and Gold valuable momentum heading into conference play.

The Bearcats will now travel to Columbus, Ga., to face the No. 22–ranked Cougars at Columbus State University in their Peach Belt Conference opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
