Sheeren’s Pin Secures Comeback Victory for #2 Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The second-ranked Lander Wrestling team found itself in uncharted territory on Wednesday night, trailing 13–0 after four bouts. But the Bearcats responded by winning five of the final six matches, capped by an electric pin from #7 Isaac Sheeren, to complete the largest comeback in program history with a 24–17 win over Belmont Abbey inside Horne Arena.

The Crusaders (3–1, 3–1 CC) opened with a major decision at 125 and followed with tight decisions at 133 and 141. At 149, #5 Isham Peace nearly put Lander on the board, but a late takedown swung the match in Belmont Abbey's favor, extending the deficit to 13–0.

From there, Lander flipped the dual.

Reid Noble jump-started the rally with a dominant 18–3 tech fall at 157, using three first-period takedowns and a four-point near fall to give the Bearcats their first points of the night. #1 David Hunsberger followed by overwhelming his opponent with a 19–3 tech fall in just 2:45, trimming the gap to 13–10.

The momentum continued at 174, where former Crusader #15 Maxwell Kiel put Lander ahead for the first time with an 18–2 tech fall. #15 Dylan Kohn added an 8–2 decision at 184 to stretch the lead to 18–13.

Belmont Abbey clawed back with a major decision at 197, closing the margin to 18–17, but the night belonged to Sheeren. The sophomore heavyweight wasted no time, locking up a takedown and driving straight to the fall in just 1:29, igniting a packed Horne Arena and securing the win for the Blue and Gold

In exhibition action, Sean Crews earned a tech fall while Belmont Abbey won the 125 exhibition.

Lander now breaks for Thanksgiving before returning to action on Sunday, December 7, hosting the Carolina Clash inside Finis Horne Arena.
