Bearcats and Pacers draw 1-1

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against visiting USCA in Peach Belt action Wednesday night at Van Taylor Stadium.

It marks the sixth draw of the season for the Bearcats, whose record moved to 1-1-6, 1-1-3 PBC. The Pacers now sit at 3-3-2, 1-2-1 PBC.

Lander controlled the ball for much of the night and took 21 shots during the game while USCA had only seven.

Six of Lander's shots were on-goal, the first of which nearly gave the Bearcats an early lead in the second minute, but Orran Mushet's close-range shot was punched away.

Callum Stokes almost headed in a corner kick in the 27th minute as it went just above the crossbar.

The Bearcats found some good fortune on their next header the very next minute, though, when Ryosuke Tanaka scored off of Mika Lankhof's free-kick for a 1-0 lead.

After the Pacers tied the game on a 65th minute Bearcat own-goal, Daniel Restrepo narrowly missed giving Lander the lead right back in the 73rd minute.

He corralled Giacomo Sartori's pass from Jaime Escos Castillo's corner kick and fired a shot to the bottom right corner. Unfortunately for the Bearcats, a USCA defender was placed perfectly to make the save.

The Bearcats' last clean look came with six minutes left when Christian Hatley had a free-kick opportunity that went over the top of the net.

Conrad Knight made four saves in goal in 90 minutes.

Lander is back home on Saturday to face Georgia Southwestern in PBC action. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
