GREENWOOD – In dominating 6-1 fashion, the Lander men's soccer team earned a Peach Belt win over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.
The offense started humming during the latter portion of the second half when it poured in four goals over a 12-minute span to put the game well out of reach.
Two of those goals came from
Giacomo Sartori (77th and 81st minutes). The other goal-scorers on the day for the Bearcats (2-1-6, 2-1-3 PBC) were
Ryosuke Tanaka,
Josh Murray,
Callum Stokes and
Carson Graves.
Tanaka broke the ice in the ninth minute off a cross from
Orran Mushet. Also assisting on the play was
Christian Hatley who had five assists today.
Murray headed-in a Hatley corner-kick in the 32nd minute and Lander took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Stokes' score was likewise a header from Hatley's 69th-minute corner-kick to make it 3-1 Bearcats. Sartori's first goal made it 4-1 while Graves pushed the margin to 5-1 in the 79th minute.
Sartori then capped the scoring with some nifty maneuvering between a pair of GSW (3-3-2, 2-2-1 PBC) defenders before bending one into the bottom-left corner with his right foot.
The Bearcats doubled-up the Hurricanes in shots and shots on goal, enjoying advantages of 17-8 and 11-4.
Goalkeeper
Conrad Knight picked up his second career win with a trio of saves.
Lander has a week between matches as they will next face Lee on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Ray Conn Sports Complex in Cleveland, Tennessee.
