Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lander Takes Down Lee, 15-7

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Lander Women's Lacrosse team let up only two goals in the second half as they returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon by taking down the Lee Flames, 15-7, at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. This was the Bearcats' first win in the series in Cleveland after Lander got their first-ever win over Lee last season in Greenwood, also by scoring 15 goals in a 15-10 win over the Flames.

Lander picked up their second win in Gulf South play, improving to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Flames dropped to 7-7 and remain winless in conference play at 0-2.

Emmy Peterson and Mickey Burnett each led the way with four points. Peterson had three goals and one assist while Burnett led all scorers with four goals. Izzy Olson also added three goals as well.

The Flames had the first dangerous attack but Kara Krusbe denied two straight shots on goal for the first of what ended up being a career-high tying 14 saves.

Emmy Peterson broke the ice offensively off a free-position shot and it sparked what ended up being a 3-0 Lander run in less than two minutes as Kylie Fragala and Kasey Bronco added goals right off the draw controls.

Lee got on the board just before the six-minute mark and the teams alternated goals the rest of the way to end the first quarter at 5-3 in favor of Lander.

The second quarter saw goals a little bit harder to come by as the Flames were able to tie the game at five before back-to-back goals by Peterson just under 40 seconds apart made it 7-5, Bearcats, heading into halftime.

After the half, the Bearcat defense stepped up and only allowed Lee to score two goals in the final 30 minutes. The Flames scored the opening goal of the third quarter and the Bearcats responded with three straight to take a 10-6 lead into the final quarter.

Lee cut the lead back down to three to start the fourth but it came seven minutes into the quarter and Lander responded with a 5-0 run with goals from Alyssa Suchan, Olson, Burnett, and Sophie Warren picked up the first goal of her career to close out the scoring.

The Bearcats continue on the road in Gulf South play as they travel to Rome, Ga. to take on the Shorter Hawks on Saturday, April 13th. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 PM first draw.
