GREENWOOD - The Lander Women's Lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with a 19-11 loss to the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Senior Day at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander wraps the regular season at 8-7 and 3-2 in Gulf South play while the Chargers finished at 11-6 and 4-1 in Gulf South play. The two teams will match up again next week in the Gulf South Tournament Semifinals for the third straight season.
Alyssa Suchan led the Bearcats with five points, making her the second Bearcat to amass 300 points in her career, joining teammate Emmy Peterson. Mickey Burnett added four points while a quartet of Bearcats recorded two points.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with neither team having a lead of more than two at any point. Izzy Olson put the Bearcats up 6-4 but the Chargers responded with four straight goals tot take the lead at 8-6. Kayla Smith and Brooke Kelly then netted goals to tie the game at eight with just over three minutes left. The Chargers, however, ended the period by scoring the next two goals to take a 10-8 lead into the break.
Turnovers proved costly in the third as Lander was outscored 5-1 as UAH opened up a 15-9 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.Â

Ella Benson for her 300th point to make it 17-10 but that was as close as Lander got.
The Gulf South Tournament is scheduled to start next Friday, April 26th with the two semifinal matches with the Championship coming on Sunday, April 28th. The games will be hosted by Flagler and game times are to be determined.
