Orangeburg, S.C. — 18th-ranked Lander completed their third-straight conference series sweep, defeating Claflin 11-5 and 19-0 Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE
The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by Ethan Wilder in the third inning. An RBI double by Jackson Hoshour in the fifth made it 3-0. The Panthers scored two runs in the fifth to make it a one-run game. At the top of the sixth, Chris Manriquez led off with a single and walked to Gary Garrett, and Hoshour loaded the bases with two outs. A single by Ross McCurley scored Manriquez and Garret to give Lander a three-run lead. The Bearcats added three runs in the seventh and two in the ninth to win.
Wilder led the Bearcats at the plate, going 3-3 with a double, run scored, and two runs driven in. McCurley finished the game 2-5 with a run scored and two runs driven in, while Chandler Moeller had a home run. Ethan Califf (3-2) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on eight hits and striking out six in five innings.
GAME TWO
Adam Love put Lander on the board with a two-run home run in the second. An RBI single by Wilder would make it 3-0 after two innings. In the top of the third, Logan Kobis reached on an error to lead off the inning. A pitch hit Moeller, and Love drew a walk to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Bennet Nooe extended their lead to 4-0. McCurley followed with a two-run single to center to extend their lead to six. Lander blew the game open in the fourth. A double by Moeller scored a run, and then Garrett walked to load the bases. Love then blasted his second home run of the game to make it 11-0. An RBI single by Taichi Nakao rounded out the scoring in the inning to give the Bearcats a 12-0 lead. Lander added seven more runs over the next three innings to cruise to the win.
Love led the Bearcats' offense, going 2-3 with two home runs, four runs scored, and six RBIs, while Moeller was 2-3 with a double, home run, three runs scored, and two runs driven in. Anson Merrick (5-0) picked up the win, allowing four hits and striking out one in three innings.
