GREENWOOD - Georgia Southwestern scored four runs in the top of the ninth to rally past Lander and win the opening game of their conference series 7-4.
The Hurricanes erupted for three runs in the first inning to take the lead. Chandler Moeller and Gary Garrett led off the second with back-to-back singles. Olive Zohn's sacrifice fly and Ross McCurley's RBI ground out cut the Bearcat deficit to one. Connor Droze's two-run home run in the fourth gave Lander their first lead of the game.
The Bearcats continued to lead for the next five innings, but Georgia Southwestern finally broke through for four runs and held on for the win.
Garrett was 2-3 with a run scored and three stolen bases to lead the Lander offense, while Taichi Nakao had a double. Tyler Overholt (2-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in one inning.
