Due West, S.C. - Lander outlasted Erskine 22-20 Tuesday afternoon to clinch the season series with the Flying Fleet.
The Bearcats raced out to an 11-0 lead after an inning and a half, but Erskine scored six runs in the bottom of the second to make it 11-6. Lander answered with seven runs in their next two at-bats to take a commanding 18-6 lead. The Flying Fleet scored 13 unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 19-18 lead heading into the eighth inning. Connor Droze led off the top of the eighth with a home run to tie the game up at 19. Gary Garrett drew a one-out walk in the top of the ninth and stole second base. Garrett then stole a third base as Dawson Campbell drew a walk, and Kael Snethen pinch-ran for Campbell. Both base runners moved up on a wild pitch, and the Bearcats again led 20-19. Taichi Nakao then walked, and Snethan moved up on a wild pitch. A two-run double by Ethan Wilder gave Lander some breathing room and made it a 22-19 game.
Four different Bearcat hitters finished with three hits in the win, led by Chandler Moeller, who had a double, two home runs, four runs scored, and two RBIs. Droze finished the game with a triple, home run, two runs scored, and three runs driven in. Kurt Rogers (3-0) picked up the win, striking out one in one and two-thirds of the innings. Tyler Overholt (5) recorded the save, giving up one run on two hits in one inning.
