GREENWOOD — Lander scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat USC Aiken 10-0 in game one of the Peach Belt Conference series.
Taichi Nakao and Ethan Wilder singled to lead off the first and later scored on Chandler Moeller's double to put Lander up 2-0. Neither team could scratch a run over the next seven innings.
The Bearcats blew the game open in the eighth. Oliver Zohn led off with a triple, and a pitch hit Nakao. Wilder followed with an RBI single, and Connor Droze walked to load the bases. Chris Manriquez lined a double off the right-centerfield wall to score three and make it 6-0. Nakao ended the game later in the inning with a two-run double.
Moeller led the Bearcat offense, going 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Nakao was 2-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two runs driven in. Bennett Nance (5-4) picked up the win, allowing six hits and striking out two in six and two-thirds innings. Kurt Rogers (2) got the save, striking out three in one and a third inning.
