Florence, S.C. — #18 Lander scored eight runs over the final four innings to take an 8-0 win over Francis Marion Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to 11 games.
For the first five innings, the game was a pitcher's duel, with neither team able to score a run. In the top of the sixth, the Bearcats runners were on the corners with one out. Ross McCurley singled to right to score Chandler Moeller and break the scoreless tie. Three straight walks by the Patriots extended the Lander lead to three. Connor Droze made it 5-0 with a two-run single, and Gary Garrett drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Bearcats a 6-0 lead. Lander added one run in the seventh and eighth innings to increase their lead to eight.
McCurley was 2-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in to lead the Lander offense, while Moeller was 1-3 with a double and two runs scored. Jake Larson (7-1) picked up the win with his first career complete-game shutout, striking out eight and allowing just four hits.
