Central, S.C. — A day after tying the school record for career home runs, Connor Droze broke the record, helping #24 Lander pick up a 16-10 nonconference victory over Southern Wesleyan Wednesday night.
An RBI single by Oliver Zohn in the top of the second gave Lander the early lead. The Warriors tied the game up with a run in the bottom of the third.
A pitch hit Ross McCurley to lead off the top of the fifth, and Taichi Nakao followed with a bunt single. Ethan Wilder lined a double into right-center to score both runners and give the Bearcats the lead once again. Droze was intentionally walked and Chris Manriquez followed with a single to score Wilder and make it 4-1. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Garry Garrett and Logan Kobis extended the Lander lead to 7-1. The Bearcats added nine runs in the following two innings to take a commanding 16-7 lead and held on for the win.
Manriquez led the Lander offense, going 4-5 with a double, home run, four runs scored, and three RBIs. Kobis finished the game 3-5 with a double, run scored, and three RBIs, and Wilder was 2-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and four runs driven in. Michael Nastro (1-1) picked up the win, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out four in five and one-third innings.
