Beaufort, S.C. -Seven players had multiple hits, and the Lander offense finished with a season-high 25 hits as the Bearcats dropped USC Beaufort 17-6 in the series-opening game.
The Bearcats jumped on the Sandsharks early, scoring six runs in the first inning. Lander added four runs in the third and one in the fourth to take an 11-1 lead. USC Beaufort answered with five runs in the fifth to make it an 11-6 game. The Bearcats scored six runs over the final four innings to cruise to the win.
Gary Garrett had a career day to lead the Lander offense. He finished the game with five hits, two doubles, and five RBIs. Connor Droze was 3-4 with three runs scored and one run driven in, while Oliver Zohn, Kyle Murphy, and Chris Manriquez all had three hits. Bennett Nance (4-4) picked up the win, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and striking out four in five innings.
