GREENWOOD - Lander scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh and held on for a 5-3 win over #15 North Georgia to complete the first series sweep of the Nighthawks since 2012.
For the first five innings, it was a pitcher's duel, with neither team able to score a run. North Georgia struck first with two runs in the sixth to take the lead. Chandler Moeller drew a one-out walk in the seventh, and Jackson Hoshour and Gary Garrett followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases for the Bearcats. Blake Marrs reached on a fielder's choice to score Moeller and cut the deficit to one run. Garrett later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two. A pitch-hit pinch hitter, Chris Manriquez, and Taichi Nakao drew a walk to load the bases again. Ethan Wilder then laced a triple to left field to clear the bases and give the Bearcats their first lead, 5-2. The Nighthawks would score a run in the eighth, but Lander would hold on for the win.
Garrett led the Bearcats at the plate, going 3-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Wilder was 1-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Bennett Sloper (1-2) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run of four hits and striking out two in three and one-third innings of work.
