CARROLLTON, Ga. - After dropping the first game of a non-conference doubleheader, 11-2, the Lander Softball team bounced back in a big way as they took the second game against the West Georgia Wolves by a score of 16-4 in six innings.
Lander now sits at 19-6 overall while West Georgia sits at 11-15 after the pair of games.
Bella Angeli racked up five hits across the two games and drove home four in the second game while Raquel Camugila drove home six in game two.
Game 1: West Georgia 11, Lander 2 (F/5)
The Wolves got two runs in the first inning but Lander responded with two in the second after a throwing error allowed Logan Coward and Camugila to score.
However, the Wolves scored nine runs across the next three innings of play and held the Bearcats off the scoreboard early to end the game early.
Game 2: Lander 16, West Georgia 4 (F/6)
Lander struck in a big way the first two innings. Angeli and Jordan Sikes both drove home runs in the first inning before Camugila launched a grand slam to left center ans Sam Bumgarner went back-to-back with her to make it 7-0, Lander, after two innings.
The Wolves got a run in the second but a Kenley Powell leadoff homer got that run back to keep the seven run lead after three.
Both teams were held scoreless over the next two innings before West Georgia put up two more in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead down to five at 8-3.
Lander responded with eight in the top of the sixth with a two-RBI double from Camugila, another Bumgarner home run, this one a two-run shot, a Powell RBI double, and an Angeli two-RBI double to put the game way out of reach at 16-3.
The Wolves picked up another run in the bottom of the inning but could come nowhere close to cutting the lead down to under eight to extend the game allowing Taylor Scott to pick up her eighth win of the season.

Lander will have the weekend off before facing the Francis Marion Patriots on Tuesday, March 19th for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM. The Bearcats will enter back into PBC play that weekend as they face the Georgia College and State University Bobcats for a three-game set starting on Saturday with a doubleheader at 4:00.
