GREENWOOD - Lincoln Memorial defeated Lander 6-3 in the first game of a three-game series Friday night.
The Railsplitters scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. In the bottom of the second, Chandler Moeller and Taichi Nakao drew walks to lead off the inning. Chris Manriquez then took the first pitch he saw and lined a single up the middle to score Moeller and cut the deficit to one run.
Lincoln Memorial would get a run back in the top of the fifth to make it a 3-1 game, but a solo home run by Ethan Wilder in the bottom half would again make it a one-run deficit for Lander. The Railsplitters answered with three runs in the top of the sixth to take their largest lead at 6-2. In the bottom of the eighth, Connor Droze reached on an error to lead off the inning, and Moeller and Nakao drew walks to load the bases with no one out. Lowndes Still would lift a fly ball into left field for a sacrifice fly to score Droze, but that would be all Lander could scratch across.
Wilder was 2-4 with a home run, run scored, and RBI, while Manriquez was 2-4 with an RBI to lead Lander at the plate. Luke Johnson (1-1) took the loss, allowing six runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings of work.
