Belmont, N.C. - Trailing 4-0 after five innings, Lander scored five unanswered runs to defeat Belmont Abbey 5-4 Tuesday night in a Southeast Region matchup.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Crusaders would score a run in the third and three in the fourth to take the 4-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Will McClellan and Connor Droze drew two-out walks, and a double by Chandler Moeller would score McClellan. Taichi Nakao followed with another double to score two runs and make it a 4-3 game. Nakao would later score on a balk to tie the game at four.
Ethan Wilder led off with an infield single in the top of the seventh and moved to second when a pitch hit McClellan. Wilder then moved up to third on a flyout by Droze and scored on a sacrifice fly by Moeller to give the Bearcats their first lead of the game.
Moeller led Lander at the plate, going 2-4 with a double, run scored, and two RBIs, while Chris Manriquez was 2-3 with a walk. Nakao finished the game with a double and two runs driven in.
Jake Larson (1-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing just one hit in one and a third innings of work. Tyler Overholt picked up his second save of the young season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
