WINGATE, N.C. - The Lander offense pounded out 26 hits and scored 25 runs as the Bearcats picked up wins over Findlay and Wingate Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE
The Bearcats took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI ground out by Connor Droze and a sacrifice fly by Chris Manriquez. Findlay answered with a run in the bottom of the half of the inning. Lander scored five unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to 7-1 lead. After Findlay made it a four-run game, the Bearcats blew it open in the seventh. Ethan Wilder drove in three runs with a triple to left-center field and then scored on a passed ball to make it 11-3. Lander added two more runs in the ninth to cruise to the 13-3 win.
Wilder led the Bearcat offense, going 3-5 with a double, triple, three RBIs, and four runs scored. Manriquez was 2-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored, and Droxe was 2-4 with a run driven in and two runs scored. Luke Johnson (3-1) got the win on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven in five innings of work.
GAME TWO
In the top of the third, Gary Garrett led off with a triple and scored on a throwing error to put Lander up 1-0. A single by Ethan Wilder scored Taichi Nakao to make it 2-0. The Bearcats added two more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to four. Lander put the game out of reach in the eighth inning. An RBI single by Oliver Zohn scored Garret. After a double by Nakao put runners at second and third, Wilder doubled to left to dive in two runs. A single by Will McClellan scored WIlder and made the score 10-1. Droze then homered to right field and put Lander up 12-1.
Wilder was 3-5 with a double and three RBIs, and Droze was 2-3 with two home runs and three runs driven in to lead the Bearcats. Bennett Nance (2-2) picked up the win, allowing on a run and striking out seven in six and one-thirds innings of work.
