Lander falls to Wingate in weekend opener

WINGATE, N.C. - Wingate scored eight runs in the fifth inning to erase a 3-0 Lander lead and defeated the Bearcats 12-5 Saturday afternoon. 

Connor Droze put the Bearcats in the lead with a three-run home run in the third. The Bulldogs scored eight in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Trailing by five in the seventh, Will McClellan drove in two with a single to make it a three-run game, but Wingate answered with four in the bottom of the inning to make it 12-5. 

Chris Manriquez led the Bearcats at the plate, going 2-3 with a double. Droze had a home run and three RBIs, and McClellan finished with two RBIs.
