GREENWOOD – Welcoming Georgia Southwestern to Van Taylor Stadium for the second time this season, the Lander men's soccer team earned a 1-0 home win in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Tournament. With the win, the Bearcats advanced to play No. 1 seed Clayton State in Morrow, Ga., on Friday (Nov. 15) in the semifinals.
The win also gave Lander a 2-1 mark over the Hurricanes in 2024, and although the close score may indicate otherwise, the Bearcats had total control of the game. They outshot the visitors 21-9 and enjoyed a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Bearcats showered the GSW keeper with four shots on net before their persistence finally paid off in the 21st minute when
Darius Wallace assisted
Carson Graves on the third goal of his sophomore campaign, finishing with his left foot in close.
Keanu Ridgill and the Lander defense buckled down from there as Ridgill earned his third clean sheet in net this season with a pair of saves; the defense as a whole put together its fifth.
Kickoff time for Friday's semifinal game will be announced by the PBC on Monday.
