MORROW, Ga. – Visiting the No. 1 seed and host Clayton State on Friday evening in the semifinal round of the Peach Belt Tournament, the Lander men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest at Laker Field.
The Lakers (11-2-3) had a narrow 13-10 edge in shots. Both teams had seven shots on goal, six of which came over the final 45 minutes for Lander (3-8-6).
Clayton State opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and carried that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Carson Graves was stopped three times in a five-minute span early in the second half in addition to captain
Christian Hatley's attempt being saved as the Bearcats' offense sprang to life.
Hatley, a Second Team All-Conference member, was again turned away by the Lakers' keeper in the 67th minute and later put Lander's final shot on net with just under 11 minutes to play as the Blue and Gold had several close chances to tie the game. The Lakers added their second goal with 5:05 left.
Senior keeper
Keanu Ridgill made five saves for the Bearcats.
