Lander Overpowers Georgia College in a Convincing 3-0 Saturday Sweep

Milledgeville, Ga. - The Lander University volleyball team secured a dominant 3-0 win over Georgia College in Peach Belt Conference play, extending their impressive season record to 16-4 and pushing their conference record to 4-1.

The Bearcats' dominant performance is reflected in the team statistics: they held a .264 hitting percentage for the match while limiting Georgia College to a -.051. The Bearcats outpaced Georgia College in nearly every category, registering more kills (32 to 23), assists (32 to 21), digs (46 to 39), and aces (8 to 0).

How it Happened

Set 1: Lander opened with a dominant 25-11 first-set win over Georgia College, setting the tone with sharp offense and solid defense. Led by Lauren Dow's accurate setting and strong serving, the Bearcats quickly built momentum, with Blondie Penaflor and Katie Miller delivering key kills. The Bearcats capitalized on Bobcats' attack errors and used well-timed blocks and aces to control the set, closing it out decisively at 25-11.

Set 2: The second set continued much like the first, with Lander pulling away for a 25-12 win. The Bearcats' offense stayed productive, with Miller, Penaflor, and Madde Blake each finding openings in Georgia College's defense. Lander's defense was just as sharp, with Emmi Cheek and Dow tallying key digs to neutralize the Bobcats' attacks. In this set, Lander's hitting percentage of .233 was more than enough to control the pace, while Georgia College managed only a -.081 hitting percentage.

Set 3: In the third set, Lander maintained control to close out the match with a 25-18 win. Georgia College kept the score tight early on, but key kills from Miller and service aces by Sam Alwardt gave Lander the edge. Lander capitalized on Georgia College's errors, with strong defensive blocks from Penaflor and Olivia Dow further widening the gap. Miller and Alyssa Tegeler delivered crucial late kills, sealing the set and securing a solid 3-0 sweep for Lander.
