Lander Blocks Lenoir-Rhyne from a Win in a 3-0 Sweep at Home

GREENWOOD - In a dominant performance, the Lander Bearcats (14-3, 2-0 Peach Belt) cruised to a straight-set victory over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (19-3, 8-2 SAC) with scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-12, to claim the win.

"I'm not sure the last time I've seen a team out-block an opponent 16-1, especially a team as big and powerful as Lenoir-Rhyne. Our defense was absolutely spectacular this afternoon," said Head Coach Jeff Reynolds

How it Happened

Set 1: The Bearcats set the tone early, overcoming Lenoir-Rhyne's aggressive attack with disciplined defense and effective counterstrikes. Lander's hitting percentage of .225, led by Katie Miller's offensive strikes, helped them seize control. The Bears matched Lander's 12 kills in the set but was hindered by 12 attack errors, giving the Bearcats an edge that led to a 25-20 finish.

Set 2: Lander took full command in the second set, with their attacking efficiency climbing to .265. Miller and Madde Blake's combined power pushed Lander further ahead as they claimed a 25-15 victory, breaking through Lenoir-Rhyne's defense while keeping their own errors minimal. Defensive contributions from Andrea Crawford and Miller herself, with a match-high 16 digs, halted the Bear's attempts to establish any rhythm.

Set 3: With momentum on their side, Lander surged to a swift victory in the third set, ending with a .241 hitting percentage and holding Lenoir-Rhyne to a shocking -.167. Karson Browning and Lauren Dow led the defensive stand with 9 and 7 blocks, respectively, while Blondie Penaflor's serves kept the Bears scrambling, delivering three aces that amplified Lander's lead. The Bearcats closed out the set 25-12, sealing the sweep with poise and precision.

Key Performances  Final Thoughts

"Picking up a quality win this time of year is really important for region ranking purposes," said Reynolds. "Lenoir-Rhyne has had a tremendous season and has much to be proud of. Beating the Bears this afternoon is definitely a quality win and should help us in the upcoming rankings."
