EMORY, Va. - The second-ranked Lander Wrestling team earned their second consecutive shutout over a conference opponent as they took downt the Emory and Henry Wasps, 45-0, on Thursday evening at the King Center.
The Bearcats improved to 11-2 and a perfect 6-0 in Conference Carolinas action while the Wasps dropped to 1-11 and 0-7 in conference play.
Lander picked up four forfeit wins at 141, 149, 184, and 197 to give them 24 team points. There was also a double forfeit at 165 where neither team was awarded points.
Oren Decker got the match started with a high-scoring 23-18 decision that saw eight takedowns and three reversals to give Lander a 3-0 lead. Kaden Fisher then followed that up with a pin in 1:11. The two forfeits brought the score to 21-0.
Sammy Gerard picked up a 18-11 decision to make it 24-0, Lander. Ryan Dobbs added a 12-3 major decision to make it 28-0 before another two forfeits make it 40-0.
Matthew Jimenez closed the match with a dominating 18-0 technical fall to make the final 45-0.
Junior Downing picked up a pin in 1:50 in an exhibition match after the main competition.Â
The Bearcats return to Horne Arena tomorrow as they welcome the top-ranked team in NAIA in Life University for a 7:00 PM first whistle.
