FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Lander split their opening games of the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic Thursday. The Bearcats swept Biola University 3-0 in the opening game and then lost to Stanislaus State 3-1.
Lander - 3 Biola - 0
Lander would score the final three points of the first set to win 26-24. The Bearcats then took sets two and three by a score of 25-22 to complete the sweep.
Freshman Lauren Dow led the Bearcats with her second double-double of the season with a game-high 36 assists and 12 digs. Katie Miller led all players with 17 kills, while Christina Aguayo had 11 and Olivia Dow had eight. Patricia Pantoja recorded 17 digs to lead all players, and Miller, McCayla Willingham, and Blondie Penaflor each had two blocks.
Stanislaus State - 3 Lander - 1
The Bearcats would take a commanding 25-11 win in the first set to take the early lead. The Warriors would tie the match at one with a 25-23 win the second set. Stanislaus State would narrowly take sets two and three, 25-21 and 26-24, respectively, to clinch the win.
Lauren Dow again had a double-double for Lander, dishing out a career-high 37 assists to go with 16 digs, while Pantoja led the team with 20 digs. Again, Miller had 17 kills to lead the Bearcats and 12 digs for a double-double. Olivia Dow had 12 kills, and Annie Holesinger added eight. Lauren Dow, Christina Aguayo, and Ellyn Adams each had two service aces, and Miller and Holesinger each had three blocks.
